BACKGROUND INFORMATION: I have worked with Xcel energy and found the City of St. Joseph
would see an energy savings of $3,636.00 based on 2007 power consumption if the City opted to
participate in the Xcel Energy Peak Shave Program. However, there would be increased employee hours
to shut down the generator after normal working hours and increased fuel consumption during peak shave
events. We would offset some fuel cost by incorporating the monthly generator maintenance runs to work
with the peak shave events.
BUDGET/FISCAL IMPACT: Based on 2007 power consumption the City of St. Joseph would save
$3,636.00 per year. The savings would. be partially offset by wages and fuel.
