BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The police department currently has four patrol cars in service.
These vehicles are leased through Travel Management, State of Minnesota. In the lease all fuel and
repairs are covered. The city covers tires and wiper blades. The only other cost to these vehicles is upon
return to travel management, all holes and damage has to be fixed. This is usually around $600.00 to fill
in the holes and take off the graphics. Since we take good care of our cars there usually is very little if
any damage to fix.
Currently we are due to replace unit 5556 which is a 2005 Ford Crown Victoria with 75,000 miles. We
extended the lease by one year and now the car needs to go. Currently we are paying $851.00 per month
and the new lease would be $908.21. This would be a lease for four years and 90,000 miles. Since this is
the patrol car that both the Sergeant and I drive, I believe that this lease is doable. If you extend the car
out longer they start to spend more time in the shop than on the street.
I have looked this over very carefully and have given this a lot of thought. This would be my
recommendation.
BUDGET/FISCAL IMPACT: $908.21 per month/$10,898.52 per year. Net difference of $656.52

Victoria for a period of four years at a monthly rate of $908.21.
