BOARD/COMMISSION/COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION:
PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION: Council has budgeted for a second Loader to be purchased in
2010 (PW-8007)
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: After reviewing the equipment needs for snow removal and
future project requirements I am recommending to the council to purchase a backhoe/loader in 2008. This
piece of equipment will be used year round and will satisfy the need of the front end loader previously
requested. This is part of the restructuring of the CIP.
BUDGET/FISCAL IMPACT: In the current CIP under PW 2007 there is budgeted $167,000for the
purchase of a new front end loader. Staff recommends the purchase of the baclchoe/loader in its
place in 2008. This will allow the reallocation of 50,000 for 2009/2010 for other equipment PW's
requires to perform in-house projects. The backhoe/loader will cost under 92,500 and increase the
efficiency of the 08/09 snow plowing effort.
