Council Agenda Item 5
AGENDA ITEM: St. Cloud Public Utilities -Pat Shea, Parkwood Lift Station
SUBMITTED BY: Administration
BOARD/COMMISSION/COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION:
PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION:
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The Parkwood Liftstation, which was constructed in 1986, conveys
wastewater for the cities of St. Cloud, Waite Park and St. Joseph. In 2005 the City of St. Cloud hired SEH
to inspect the structure and related equipment and electrical components. Records indicate that the
total flow of the liftstation has increased significantly since the original installation requiring increased
reliability in equipment and the addition of a permanent back-up power supply.
Since the City of St. Joseph reties on this liftstation, the cost of the improvements become in part a
responsibility to St. Joseph. The total project cost is estimated to be $ 1,500,000 with a cost sharing as
follows:
St. Cloud 36.82%
Waite Park 40.00%
St. Joseph 23.189'0
The project will consist of the following components:
1. Replace existing dry pit pumps with submersible pumps installed in a dry pit application.
2. Move the electrical power and instrumentation and control system from the dry pit to an
electrical building constructed next to the lift station on the ground surface.
3. Install a permanent standby power generator within a common building to the control
building.
The City staff has asked St. Cloud to make a presentation to the City Council so that you have an
opportunity to see the improvements that will be added and ask any questions you may have. The cost
for the lift station modifications will be paid through a combination of user fees and sewer access fees.
BUDGET/FISCAL IMPACT: $ 250,000 (Approximately)
