August 24, 1982
The St. Joseph Parks Commission met at the City Hall on Tuesday August 24
at 7 p.m. Members present. were: Blanchette, Gretsch, Pfannenstein, Taufen,
and laiason, Reber.
Taufen ~ep4zted, the bridge site for Grant ~~2 project has been finalized. A
slight change from the originally planned site had to be made due to the
location of existing underground utility lines. The materials for the bridge
are available and all but the landscaping will be completed this fall. An
extension of the due date will be requested.
Blanchette-suggested trees be planted on the downtown boulevards next spring
in conjunction with Arbor day. Taufen suggested she check with the downtown
renewal committee before proceeding, to see whether trees will be included
in the renewal plan.
Promises of perennial plant donations are coming in. Judy Meyer suggested
they be planted iri-areas that are hard to maintain-with a mower.
Reber reported the boyscout project in Millstream park was completed and the
job well done.
Blanchette asked whether it would be feasible to maintain a skating rink in
Cloverdale tot lot. It was decided it probably could not be done satisfac t-
orily unless volunteer help was provided to clear the rink of snow when ~.-._
necessary.
Having the student worker on duty full time helped to improve conditions in
Millstream park and also cut down on vandalism. All agreed, this summer's
worker, Judy Meyer, was an excellent choice.
Herb Bechtold has resigned as a member of the Park Commission.
Meeting adjourned at 8 p.m.
