July 25,1983
The regular meeting of the St. Joseph Parks Commission was held in the City
Hall at 7:00 p.m. on July 25. Members present were: Blanchette, Klein,
Hewitt, Pfannenstein, Taufen and liaison, Reber. Also present was Kim Schmidt,
student park worker.
Minutes of previous meeting were approved .with a motion by Hewitt; seconded
by Klein.
Blanchette explained the "Passcard" idea to Reber... Reber was not enthusiastic
about it. He feels it is too complicated to administer. The Lions Club
was informed before they built the shelter that it would stand on city property
and therefore would belong to the city. Too many people in the community
have devoted their time and efforts in the parks to be fair. Hewitt suggested
someone attend a Lions meeting to explain that the problem was addressed by
the Board, but there are too many problems with such a plan to be feasible.
The golf course in Millstream Park should be labeled. Klein suggested flags
be installed on each green. The flags need not be regulation. Reber said
he would attend to it.
The library committee requested a letter be drafted by the Park Board indicat-
ing approval of an area which includes the Memorial park granite marker be
used fora library site. Blanchette to do so.
Taufen reported the grant #2 project will get underway next week and might
be near completion by the next meeting date.
Blanchette will contact volunteers to transplant trees in September. Taufen
said there will be many evergreens that need to be transplanted from Hollow
park soon. They will be used for a snow and wind break in Millstream park.
Kim Schmidt suggested markers~.be made and erected in each of the parks to
label them. It will be easier to direct persons to a park if it is labeled.
Taufen and Reber to work on project.
Taufen reported a swing set was donated to the city by Krebsbach Oil and
installed in Hollow Park.
Meeting adjourned at 8 p.m.
