HomeMy WebLinkAbout1984 [03] Mar 26ST. JOSEPH PARKS COMMISSION MEETING Mar.:h 26 , 19134 The _egular meeting of the St. Joseph Parks Commission was held in City Hall at 7:00 p.m. un March 26. Members present were: Blanchette, Klein, Grets.:h Pfannenstein, Taufen, Braun and liaison, Reber. Also present were prospective members: Greg Henry and Mike Strickler. Minutes of the February 27 meeting were approved by Klein; seconded by Gretsch. Blanchette stated she had contacted St. Benedict's about a student worker. A job description form will be sent to her. The St. Joseph township will con- tribute toward the student worker's. salary, as they have done in previous years. Boy scout, Jeff Bratland, will be assigned work at the Millstream Park underpass, to complete the necessary hours of community service required to receive his Eagle Scout rating. Chairperson Blanchette received a letter from John Schultz, of the Division of Recreational Park and Liesure Studies, at the University of Minnesota, who stated there might be a possibility that a student would do a study on parks; also that an instructor might be available to speak to the Board about park development. Mileage would have to be paid--this could amount to about $50.00 per visit. Blanchette also received a questionnaire from Chuck Wocken, Director of the Stearns County Park Systems. The County intends to update bike trails and needs more information to get the project started. Taufen reported approximately 300 hours have been spent on the Millstream underpass. He feels that about three-fourth of the in kind contributions have been met. The St. Joseph Jaycees donated to the city, fertilizer which was left over from their 1983 fund raiser. It will be used in Millstream Park. Taufen will arrange to apply it at the same time that the Recreation Association applies fertilizer to the softball diamond. Weeds in the parks are being controlled by the maintenance department. It was mentioned that the Lions shelter needs some repair. If the city undertakes this job, cement forms from this repair work could be used to install the cement slabs for the basketball areas. Klein made a motion to recommend that the city repair the top ledge of the Lions shelter, eg~t`: not to exceed $75.00; Gretsch seconded. Motion carried. Blanchette to contact Mike Nierengarten about tree seedlings that might be obtained. Meeting was adjourned at 7:00 p.m. Nel Pfannenstein Secretary
