Meeting called to order by Chairman, Joe Braun.
Members present were: Joe Braun, John Anderson, Greg Henry, Jo Loscheider, Nel
Pfannenstein, Larry Christen, Fay Gretsch, Liaison Steve Defiler and guest City
Clerk, Rachel Stapleton.
Minutes were approved by Greg Henry and seconded by Jo Loscheider.
Treasurer's report: Recreation money budgeted was 14,125.00 and balance is $2525.51
Parks: 8,975.00 $18, 982.44 & balance 1992.56.
Capita]. outlay $12,000.00
Parks require $200-300 per month for operating -that leaves about $1000 as a balance.
Winter Recreation Program; letter sent to SCSU, St. Ben's and St. John's for a
Program Director. Interviews will be held on November 7 and program planning should
begin in December and program will begin January and continue for six weeks.
Steve will hire employees for skating rink supervision. He is considering having
the police dept. check on these areas periodically each night the rinks are open.
Jogging Course: There is no problem with the Jaycees installing the jogging course.
It may take 2 days to complete the job and they are looking into using a gas post
hole digger. Supplies (concrete) was approved by City Council.
Speakers: Dick Taufen and crew put the wires underground and someone has ordered the
speakers for the skating rink in Memorial park. Before the rinks at Kennedy are
moved we will need to contact the Hockey Association and the baseball team. It would
be advantageous to post the hours on the side of the building.
Other: Cub Scouts cleaned up all the parks on October 1 -Pack 84 with about 15 boys.
New caps have not been put on the new Big Toy in Centennial. It would be
good to do a routine check in the spring of the year to tighten all the
screws.
Hopefully sand will be put in the horse-shoe area this fall or early spring.
Joe will take on the project of the archery range.
Steve's report: The budget for Winter Recreation program was approved. We seem
quite positive that the swimming program in Winter Rec. would go over big. Rachel
will check on the insurance cost for this program for amonth-six weeks. The fee
for the swimming program will be according to the number of participants.
Recommendations report: Rachel went through our list of items for each park area.
Some of the items were completed and some have not been, maybe even shelved for a
time. She understands our concerns now and will see what she can do about it.
Millstream bathrooms were discussed - we still think they should put in a vent
system. Rachel said they did steam clean before the 4th of July. It was also
suggested to recommend to have plexi glass on north side.
Meeting adjourned at 8:20 pm.
Respectfully submitted,
