Meeting was called to order by John Anderson, Chair at 6:35 pm on May 11 ,1990.
Members present: Fay Gretsch, Greg Henry, John Anderson, Joe Braun, Claudette Klein,
liaison, Steve Dehler and new members: Marge Lesnick, Darwin Erickson, Richard Schultz.
Absent: Nel Pfannenstein, Larry Christen.
Minutes were approved by Greg Henry and seconded by Joe Braun.
Welcome to New Members: John introduced new members and oriented them in regard to the
Parks Commission.
Liaison Report: The dredging of Millstream and Morningside Parks will take place this
summer. The original permit will be extended. Steve asked about the water fountains in
question but there was no action taken.
Letter to Bill Lorentz: John wrote a letter to Bill Lorentz, Chief of Police, regarding
ATVs. Joe Braun approved and it was seconded by the board.
Painting of Centennial Park Shelter: As soon as the weather clears, they will sandblast
the building and then the Jaycees will paint it.
Fencing of Tot Lots: Steve Dehler suggested we put up 6 ft fences for Tot lots and a fence
at the Horse Shoe area. He obtained some bids. It was also suggested to write a letter
to the Planning Commission that any new development area with a park area sho~nld be fenced
in immediately.
Archery Range: Joe has not contacted the group interested since the reviewal by the insur, e
company. There are a few people out there using the area for archery. Joe suggested that
any old sod could be laid on the hill and then you could shoot arrow into the sod.
Development of Morningside Park: Greg Henry will get a bid for 2 cement picnic tables for
that area from Bremix.
Old Business
Summer Recreation Program: The program started on June 11. Summer Recreation and Kid Stop
will be working together at Kennedy grade school.
Dry Rider Bike Rally: They are still planning to use Millstream Park over Labor Day Weekend.
Recommendations:
1. Joe Braun made a recommendation to have the Morningside Park sign on 95th Ave. moved
to entry area on 10th Avenue. Seconded by Fay Gretsch. Approved by Park Commission.
2. Greg Henry made a recommendation to make a pedestrian opening. to_Morr~ingside Park on
10th Avenue. Seconded by Joe Braun. Approved by Park Commission.
3. Marge Lesnick made a. recommendation to remedy the defect at the bottom of the slides
in Centennial Park.
New Business
Boy Scouts will camp in Millstream Park again this year.
City did not hire an employee to mow the grass in the parks.
