NIINUTES OF ST JOSEPH PARKS COMMISSION MEETING
APRIL 26, 1993
Meeting called to order by Joe Braun( filling in for John Anderson) at
6:40 p.m.
Members present: Darwin Erickson, Fay Gretsch, Rick Schultz, Irma
Lanier, Joe Braun, & Bob Loso (liaison from the city council)
Minutes were approved by Darwin, seconded by Rick.
Irma Lanier was approved by the city council and was given a warm
welcome as our new park board member. She was introduced to the
rest of the board & gave us some background information on herself.
Park Liaison Report: Bob reported that 2 sandboxes were approved
by the city council to be put in Centennial Park & Millstream Park. 2
Backhoes were also approved to be purchased. Joe Braun will order
them.
- Bathroom drawing for Centennial Park was made to meet ADA
compliance. We will be working on that project soon.
- City Council approved $400 for the beautification of the monument
park project for flowers, project to begin soon.
- Marge. Lesnick should contact Dennis Katzner about replacing the
trees and shrubs that died that are under warranty. The ones that
were destroyed should also be replaced & the city will pay for them.
- Would like to see a budget report for 1994. Suggestion was made
to have John A., Joe B., & Darwin get together within the next 2
weeks & write one .
-Old Business
- No report on park survey
- No report on Earth Day projects
- Spring toys that were purchased by the JC's will be put in
Centennial Park. Joe will talk to Rachel to find out if it's okay to put
them by the Big Toy area.
- Park Clean-up Day was held on Saturday April 24th. The JC's ~~
donated a light lunch and drinks for all those that helped out. The.
project went well considering the poor weather. The only park that
did not get cleaned was Morningside Park.
- Beautification of Main Street - We were asked to check to see if
any money could be spent on this project. Bob Loso looked deeply
into this subject but didn't come up with any funds.
-Hockey Rink -Plans are that the rink will be moved this summer,
but it will be scaled down a little in order to fit it in the other park.
New Business
- Fencing in Morningside Park- Rick gave us a bid for a partial
enclosure for the west & east ends of the park. After a long
discussion it was decided that maybe we will need to expand farther
out with the fence. Decided to hold the next meeting at Morningside
Park so we c ould futher investigate th is project. Bob Loso will bring
the fence up at the next city council meeting.
- Still having problems with motorcylces coming into Morningside
Park. After discussion, Bob Loso said he will -order more "no
vehicles" signs for the park.
- Joe will be putting an ad in the St. Joe Newsleader again
announcing that the portable archery target will again be available
for public use. It will be available from May 1 thru Oct. 31, with the
guidelines to be the same as last year. The target will again be
available at Joe Braun's house.
Meeting adjourned at 7:55 p.m.
Next meeting will be held May 24,1993 at b:30 p.m. at Morningside
Park. Bring along a lawnchair! If the weather is bad the meeting
will be at city hall instead.
