Members present: Lonnie Abbott, Kyle Schneider, Bruce Berghorst, Marge Lesnick, Jennifer Wirz Members absent: John Walz Approval of Agenda: Motion by Berghorst, seconded by Lesnick *ivloved City Council Liaison's report to end; moved "Hiring Of Summer Recreation Director" to Chairman Comments section Approval. of Minutes from 22 January and 26 February 2001: (Lesnick, Berghorst) Chair Report: Mary Kay Gapinski has agreed to be the Summer Recreation Director. She can be reached at 255.5563. We briefly discussed the budget and some ideas with Mary Kay. Motion by Wirz, Lesnick to hire Mary Kay was approved. Laura from Resurrection Lutheran. Church spoke with the board about the groups wanting to help clean up the parks and plant flowers. Motion by Lesnick, Wirz to include these groups and set a date at a future meeting. Motion approved. Ted from Lumber One showed plans for phase b in Northland and talked about how the park may be impacted. They have a plan to increase access to the park with their new development. We had a lengthy discussion about this. Old Business: There is no news on the light/timer for the bill because of unforeseen complications. It may be installed this summer. New Business: Softball tournament is getting good publicity. It will be held May 5 and the Park Board will do a fundraiser at the event. We tabled discussion of the Healthy Conununity Partnership's involvement with the city-wide trail. Summer projects list (FYI): VB court at Northland; Millstream campground upgrades; Signs and park rules; benches and picnic tables (possibly having them at the campsites); Memorial Park backstop fencing (in by fall); Millstream Park frisbee golf landscaping. Liaison Report: there is an applicant for the vacant park board position. Steve Dehler's bill has been dropped in the state legislature. St. Wendell has approved reimbursing our Summer Recreation program for $2,200 owed in 2000. Bruce and Kyle will look into the Welcome Center (a joint effort comprised of local civic and volunteer organizations). The St. Joseph Recreation Association has paid a bill. for the Park Board We ~ will need to reimburse them.
