MEETING DATE: August 5"' 2009
AGENDA ITEM: Fire Chiei's Report
Fire Board Agenda Item 4
Update on the Opticoms far CR 75 intersections at CR 2 and 20~' Ave. After our last Fire
board meeting the City council approved the cost of up to $6000.00 to equip the two
intersections and sent a letter to Stearns Country to start the process. Since than, the St. 3oe
Jaycees' approached the Fire Department and stated that they would like to donate up to
$6000.00 for two intersections. We are now waiting to hear back from the county with an
estimated time of complication so the Fire Department can equip their trucks and get proper
training. (The Fire Department has raised enough money through fund raisers to equip the
trucks and there will be no money need from the city or township's).
The two new members, that were hired January 15~`, 2009 Keith Louwagie and Greg
Koutoupas, have now completed both their First Responder and Firefighter i class and have
also passed their State Certification for Firefighter 1. Keith also has his class B license
wlTanker endorsement and is ready to get accepted by the relief association. Greg is working
on his license. We have one member, Daryl Schloemer, that needs to pass part of his State
Certification test, which he will be taking on Thursday July 24, 2009.
• The Federal Training Grant that we received was used for Firefighter i, Firefighter 11, and
First Amving Officer. The grant was $2804A0, which will help offset our training budget.
• We are in the process of ordering 30 new "Safety Vest", one for each member as part of the
gear to be used on any and all road scene's. The cost will be around $25.00 per vest or
$750.00. $60.00 per vest, or $1800.00 was approved at the last meeting
• CMS Autobody has mounted seatbelt extensions in Ladder # 2 and is in the process of
installing them in Engine # 1. The cost should be well below the $500.00 that was approved at
last meeting. Seat belt use in trucks responding to calls and back to the hall is going very well.
• Waiting to hear back from DNR an grant far 20 new Pagers
• Waiting to hear back on Federal Grant to replace 28 sets our tearout gear, boots, and helmets
