HomeMy WebLinkAbout[00] Memo to the CouncilMEMORANDUM It has been a very busy couple of weeks. The office staff has been working on the budget, capital improvement plan, Planning Commission projects, rental housing and numerous complaints. Rental Housing The rental housing licenses run from August 15 to August 14 of each calendar year. As of the writing of this memo, approximately 44% of the properties have completed the process. The City has 153 properties eligible for licensing with a total unit count of 441. Rental Complaints The City has seen an increase in the number of complaints concerning alleged rental units. The Police Department continues to investigate those calls as we can. Recently a noise complaint was received on 8th Avenue SE. It appears as if this properly is functioning as a rental and the Police are working on this one as well. We are also receiving some calls about the quality of the rental housing. The housing that has completed the process meets the minimum standards. Not everyone has the same standards for living and what the students are willing to live in may be different that what the parents are expecting. Park Vandalism Centennial Park Restrooms have been the target of vandalism so temporarily the restrooms are locked during the day and only open when the facility is rented. ASTECH The City has executed the agreement for crack sealing and we received a lower price than anticipated. The original cost was $ 1.30 per pound and based on competition, ASTECH was willing to meet a lower price of $ 1.14 per pound. You can expect to see the work begin shortly. Budget Books Anyone that has their budget book from 2009 we ask that you bring that with you so we can recycle the binders and tabs. We plan on handing out the budget books the night of the meeting, August 12, 2009 at 6:00 PM.
