REGARDING: RSVP BUDGET REQUEST FOR YEAR 2010
Enclosed is a written summary of RSVP services in the St. Joseph area and our
budget request for 2010. The attached activity report highlights our past year's
accomplishments and details our funding request for the next year.
Our RSVP program--apart of the National Senior Service Corps, sponsored locally
by the City of St. Cloud--continues to flourish in St. Joseph, making a lasting
difference in the lives of senior volunteers and the people they serve. Last fiscal
year, January 1, 2008 -December 31, 2008, we enabled and supported the
volunteer efforts of 82 older citizens from St. Joseph who contributed 10,756.25
hours of service to meet community needs.
The mission of RSVP is to engage men and women age 55 and better in meaningful
volunteer service that strengthens the well being of both self and community. We
work with 152 non-profit or licensed health care sites in the Greater St. Cloud area
and assess their appropriate needs for volunteers. We provide services to both the
senior volunteers we serve as well as the community at large.
Impact
In 2008, 1,295 active RSVP volunteers contributed 157,690 hours of community
service making the lives of thousands of others healthier, happier and more hopeful.
In order to continue operating this worthwhile program in St. Joseph, we need
funding in the amount of $12,719 for 2010, which you will see documented on
the budget page. (In 2009, you contributed $4,400 toward our operating costs.)
We have also submitted a request to St. Joseph Township for $600 for 2010.
We currently have Marjorie Lesnick, an active St. Joseph RSVP volunteer and
Mary Kay Hawkins from Arlington Place serving on our RSVP Advisory Council
as the St. Joseph representatives. We are grateful for their active involvement and
support.
Please feel free to contact me at (320) 650-3122 if you have any questions about
our budget report and I look forward to hearing from you about your funding
decision. I would also be willing to share information with your City Council about
RSVP or our Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT) initiative.
