There has also been concern expressed by residents that they are not taken care of fast enough. The City process for weeds is as follows: • On a routine basis the City Weed Inspector (Randy Torborg) provides the City Office staff with a listing of properties not in compliance. OR the first step can be a resident notifying the City Office of a complaint to which we than have the weed inspector review the property and brings the information back to the office. • Once the office receives notification of properties that are not in compliance a letter is mailed to the property owner and they are given 10 days to remedy the situation or the City will have the grass cut and assess the property owner $100 per lot per hour with a minimum of one hour. • If the charge is not paid the amount will eventually be assessed to the property and collected the following year with the real estate taxes. The Police Department is going to start issuing citations to properties where the City has to mow the lawn as well as assess the charge. In order to do this we have to amend the form we mail, which we are in the process of completing. The next notices that are mailed will include a provision that they will be cited for Ordinance Violation as well as the cutting fee. As I stated at the last Council meeting, there is an expectation that when the City mows property it will have a manicured appearance. The only impact of the cutting is the height; we still cannot control dandelions and other types of non-noxious weeds.
