Fire Board Agenda Item 5 - A MEETING DATE: November 4th, 2009 AGENDA ITEM: D.N.R. -Burning Permits BACKGROUND INFORMATION: As of October 15Y, 2009 the Minnesota D.N.R has change the ways that people are able to get burning permits. In the past, a resident would need to get a hold of the Fire Chief or one of the two fire wardens in either township; they would then have to call the county dispatch to notify them that they are burning to make sure the fire department didn't get called to a legal burn. With the D.N.R. taking over, they are pushing the residents to goon line and receive a year long permit which allows them to activate it at any time. The permit cost $5.00 and this allows the D.N.R. to monitor the burning and shut downs permits when the conditions are bad. The county dispatch also has access to a map that will till them were the permits are at. The City allows only recreational fires, 3 x 3 x 3, the CSB contacted me this past week wanting to burn some brush they have it their sand pit. After taking with the city and the D.N.R., I recommend that they get a wood chipper and get rid of their brush that way. The D.N.R. stated that with in a few years this will be the only way to do it. BUDGET/FISCAL IMPACT: This will be a cost saving to the Fire Department, not getting call to a legal burn ATTACHMENTS: No REQUESTED ACTION: Find out the feelings of the fire board to make sure nobody will get special privileges.
