Fire Board Agenda Item 4
MEETING DATE: November 4th, 2009
AGENDA ITEM: Fire Chief's Report
Update on the Opticoms for CR 75 intersections at CR 2 and 20th Ave. This topic was brought
up at our last meeting stating that the Fire Chief had made contact with Stearns County and
he was told that the Opticons on the light poles should be on by the end of September. It is
now the beginning of November and they Opticoms are still not up. I have tried to contact
the county by phone and a-mail with no response. Maybe the city can try and make some
contact to find out a start and finish date. (The Jaycees are still waiting to pay the city's half)
We also discussed the emmiters for our fire trucks. Through our fund raising money we
purchased 6 emmiters and had them installed at the end of September. Training to all
members was done in-house at our September drill.
• All the new members have past the FF1 State Certification test.
At the January 2009 meeting I informed all members that everyone needs to get there Class B
License with Tanker endorsement and gave them until January of 2011. (This 2 year window
went along with the 2 new members that started in January of 2009). Out of thirty members,
we have 15 members that didn't and still do not have their license yet. I also informed them
that the city is paying for it and that they can use our trucks to take the test. I discussed this
issue with the city administrator to find out what can be done. She told me to draft up a
letter stating their membership me be a risk if they don't get this done. I'm working on this
and plan on handing this out at our January meeting.
• The Minnesota Training Grant came out again offering $1.18 million in training money. We
wrote a grant for five classes and have to wait to here if we get anything. The time line for
this grant is from July of 2009 to the end of June 2010.
• Each member received a new Safety Vest and were told when and where to use them. They
were put in each member's locker and became part of their gear.
• CMS Auto body has both of our pumpers equipped with the seat belt extensions. They
donated the time and material.
• Waiting to hear back on Federal Grant to replace 28 sets our turnout gear, boots, and
helmets
• Generator maintenance and the maintenance on both or pumpers have been completed.
