FIRE DEPT.
MEETING DATE: February 10th, 2010
AGENDA ITEM: Fire Chiefs Report
Fire Board Agenda Item 4
Update on the Opticoms for CR 75 intersections at CR 2 and 20th Ave. After our November
meeting the City Administrator and myself have been trying to contact Stearns County and
finally on January 28th they told us that the price will be a little high than previous stated. We
were given an estimate of around $5,000.00 per intersection with the city and county
splitting the cost. Now the cost is going to be $6,885.00 for CR 2 /CR 75 and $6,585.00, a total
cost to the city of $6,735.00. The City Administrator and I discussed this and told the County
on February 2nd 2010 to go ahead and move forward with the install. At the May Fire board
meeting, the board agreed to move forward and would split the cost with the city. I have
sent a letter to the Jaycee's to see if they are still interested in donating to this to help offset
our cost. (They have a meeting on Wednesday February 101h, 2010)
After our last Fire Board meeting in November, I went back to the Fire Department and
brought up the "Class B w/Tanker" endorsement issue. I gave each member, who does not
have the correct license yet, a CDL test booklet and informed them that they only have until
January or 2011 to get this taken care of. I also informed them that their status on the St.
Joseph Fire Department may be at risk if this is not taken care of. To date, none of the 15
members that do not have the right license have turned in a copy of their new license.
• We were notified in November that we received $4,000.00 from the Minnesota Training
Grant. We wrote the grant for FF2 and Emergency Vehicle Defensive Driving classes, and we
were awarded $4,000.00 for the Emergency Vehicle Defensive Driving class. The class is
scheduled for April.
• Still waiting to hear back on Federal Grant to replace 28 sets our turnout gear, boots, and
helmets. There has only been two phases released so far.
• The annual Sprinkler Test and Alarm Test have been completed.
• The new Officers are working well in their new positions
• All members were notified that under the Fire Chief's discretion, they will need to have all the
mandatory training done before they will be allowed to go to any advanced training classes.
