Crate CommUNITY would first like to commend the Si. Joseph City Council for your willingness
to discuss this issue and would like to support this in any way.
Create CommUNITY is a gawp of leaders from Central Minnesota whose mission is to dismantle
racism through systemic change. We began meeting in 2003 (as an initiative of the Central
Minnesota Community Foundation) to envision and work towards creating communities that
provide a welcoming, non- discriminatory environment with respect and opportunities for all its
residents.
• In the spring of 2005, Create CommUNITY partnered with GRIP (Great River
Interfaith Partnership) to support the creation of a regional Human Rights office in
the central Minnesota region.
• various city and county representatives joined community organizations to become
the Regional Human Rights Task Force.
• Create CommUNITY provided a facilitator and staff resources for the task force
and they met from June 2005 to June 2006.
• This task force identifted an immediate and si mftant need for a miky ai
human riatrts office and presented this finding and a complete report at the
• Joint Area Cities meeting on January 31, 2006 and to

• In May 2007, the State Commissioner for the Department of Human Rights
presented on the feasibility of the Regional Human Rights office to the Joint Area
Cities meeting.
• On January 15, 2008, Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty gave public support of
human rights in the region.
