Agenda Item(s)
1. Bulk Purchasing
Currently on hold until the settling of St. Cloud PD into their new building.
2. Training
Sartell became owner of a single level building at Co.120 /50th Ave. as part of acquisition for road right of
way. Jim offered the buildings availability for area departments to conduct training in. SCPD's tactical
response team has used the building so far. It will be tom down the first or second week of May, but is
still available for use. There is a home close to the building that the owner will be having demolished as
part of the tear down of Sartell's building. Occupants of that home are to be out at the end of March and
the owner has offered the use of the house for training purposes as well. Jim will be working on a
liability waiver of some sort to have the homeowner sign. Please contact Jim if your department would
like the use of the structure.
On May 5 and 19, St. Joseph PD will be holding a simunition training session with Waite Park PD. If
interested in attending the training from the metro departments, please contact either chief.
The Family Academy ended a short time ago and again went well. There was very positive feedback
from those that attended the training. The chiefs agreed to have their departments continue to
participate.
A short discussion was had about the use of force continuum and where the taser falls within that
outline. The courts are tightening when the taser can be used, but it appears some of this falls
back to proper training of the officers and reminding them that they have other tools (mace, baton,
empty hands, etc.) that can be used.
3. RMS Server
Chief Bentrud spoke briefly about the single server issue being pursued by those departments who
received JAG money. Input was also given to the chief by other departments in Steams County at
a Steams County Chiefs of Police meeting a few months ago. Departments were concerned about
an increase in IS fees. Those involved are attempting to find an economical way to share the future
costs.
4. Budget Issues
Departments are all suffering from the economy. Departments are either down staff or have held off on
equipment purchases or both. The metro departments will continue to look for opportunities for cost
reduction methods.
Next meeting date and location: March 23 @ 0730 hours at Sauk Rapids PD.
