Fire Board Agenda Item 4

FIRE DEPT.
MOTIM1L malt OP CUMA1MIllaso.
MEETING DATE: May 12th, 2010
AGENDA ITEM: Fire Chief's Report
• Update on the Opticoms for CR 75 intersections at CR 2 and 20 Ave. I was able to contact
Doug from Design Electric the first week of April and he told me that he did receive the work
order from the County and that he would be starting on the lights on the week of April 12
The lights are up on the poles and i have a call into Doug to make sure they are all up and
working. The Jaycees have told me that they would still like to pay the half that the city was
going to pay, but would like the city to pay it up front and the Jaycees would make payments
to take care of the bill.
• We were able to get our Emergency Vehicle Defensive Driving class done on April 27 with
the behind the wheel simulator being done on the 28 29 and 30 The class went very
well and I believe it opened everyone's eyes about driving. The cost of the class was
$3,900.00 and was totally funded by a grant we received for the State of Minnesota.
• We heard back on Federal Grant to replace 28 sets our turnout gear, boots, and helmets. We
were denied this year, but we plan on trying again for the same thing next year.
• We sent in a grant application to the Minnesota DNR for the replacement of our six wheeler.
Last meeting we discussed weather to write it for two new back pack blowers or a
replacement ATV. It was the board's decision to try for the ATV.
• The Safety Arrow for the back of Unit #4 (Tanker) was purchased and installed in the end of
March. We were able to find a light that looks like an arrow with the option of moving the
traffic left, right, or just to warn drivers. All members were trained on the new light and
when and where to use it.
• The BLS Guidelines were mortified to meet the SJFD and sent to our Medical Advisor, Mark
Halsrtom. He is reviewing them and will sign off, at which that time each member of the
department will receive a copy
