SUBMITTED BY: Administration
BOARD /COMMISSION /COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION: N/A
PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION: For the past couple of years the City has approved an outdoor event for
CSB. The event is limited to alumnae from the College and other than 2008 has been uneventful.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The College of St. Benedict is again requesting a liquor license for a
special event to be held on June 26, 2010. The event is known as SaintStock and is for alumni of the
College only. The event is not open to the public. The Ordinance requires notification of the neighbors

arrangements.

Dear Judy,
April 2, 2010
I am writing with information about SaintStock 2010 which for this year has been moved to Saturday, June 26,
2010. Last year and in previous years you would have received this information from Kristin Darnall. However,
this year I was asked to plan and organized SaintStock and will be the new contact person for the event.
Similar to last year, we are requesting on behalf of Saint Ben's a variance for outdoor music to be allowed until
midnight. SaintStock is scheduled to run from 7:00 p.m. to 12:00 p.m. The evening will start with 3 alum bands
and then Slip Twister plays from l Opm to 12am. Everything takes place on the "mall" area at CSB.
In addition to the music, food and beverages will be available for purchase. Food will be provided by CSB Dining
Services and Gary's Pizza. Beverages will be provided by CSB Culinary Services and served by their professional
catering staff.
he entire parameter of the event will be fended off and monitored Ibly fI'SU se.cur -ay. Onec again, SaintStock is
()NLY for CSB /SJLJ alums and the. -efom will not be a family event and ove, to the age of -our alums, minors have
not been invited, but could possibly be the guest of an attendee. Each person entering the :campus will provide a: .
ticket and be carded. If by chance a mino; is the guest of an alum, they will receive:a different colored wristband so
that our professional catering staff will know NOT to serve that person alcohol. No alcohol will be allowed into the
fenced off event area and no alcohol can be taken from the event outside this parameter. The director of CSB
security will be hiring additional staff to help with security if necessary.
In regards to sound and noise control — the event is occurring at the center of campus with the stage and noise
pointed South to Southeast. There are no residents close enough in this direction for noise to be a large concern.
Most of the buildings on campus will provide very nice sound barriers.
Once again, I have included the entire campus in planning this event to ensure the success of SaintStock. This

and a production expert. Each person has claimed responsibility for certain aspects of the event. We have met to
discuss the logistics which include traffic concerns, crowd control, noise and sound issues and alcohol related
issues. I feel confident that key issues have been addressed and that the right people are involved to help problem -
solve any significant challenges.
Please let me know if there are any other questions in regards to the logistics of SaintStock. I look forward to
presenting this information to the St. Joseph City Council.
