The economic crisis that began nearly two years ago has left a wound that is slow to heal. While we dig our way toward recovery, I hope you are pleased at the Initiative Foundation's continued relentless efforts to "help people help themselves" in building strong, healthy home towns. Amid our own budget cuts, wage freezes, downsizing and employee furloughs, the foundation continued to serve central Minnesotans with a mission that is focused solely on economic vitality and a great quality of life. Since 1986 we have put more than $57.3 million to work here in our 14- county region in the form of business financing loans, grants to nonprofits and governmental units, and scholarships (through donor- designated funds). In addition, nearly 5,000 local citizens have received leadership training through one or more of the foundation's signature programs. The Initiative Foundation is truly your resource for community and economic development. Tough times unite us and sharpen our focus. For every local dollar received by the foundation since its inception, an average of $5.60 is directly reinvested in this region. You truly have the power to leverage outside investment in central Minnesota through the Initiative Foundation's mission and work. We respectfully ask that you consider our 2010 request of $1,5W. If this amount or another amount has been approved, please consider this letter a request for payment. Your gift does directly impact your community, neighbors, and friends. THANK YOU for thoughtfully considering support for the Initiative Foundation's important mission and work. cerely, urt Hanson Vice President for Donor Service cc: Kathy Gaalswyk, President PS: The Initiative Foundation will be sending a 2011 Budget Request to the City by mid -June 2010. 105 PiHS'r Srrcrc'r SE Lrrri_e EALLs. Our History Created in 1986 by a partnership of local people and The McKnight Foundation, the Initiative Foundation is one of six Minnesota Initiative Foundations (MIFs) serving greater Minnesota. The MIFs were originally formed to address economic issues related to rural flight, poverty and downtown decline, which were prevalent during the mid- 1980s. Today, the MIFs work to make the six regions outside the metropolitan area stronger and more prosperous. Each foundation's priorities are decided by the people in its own region, with grants and loans supporting such issues as economic development, leadership development, community building, and families, youth and seniors. > MIF Fact Sheet , AKF principles y for Orontmokers Site Map I Contact us The Initiative Foundation is an equal opportunity lender, provider and employer. © 2006.
