AGENDA ITEM: Election Judges — Requested Action: Appoint Election
Judges for the August 10 State Primary and November 2 State General Election.

PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION: Minnesota Statute requires that municipalities appoint Election Judges.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: For each election the City Council is required to appoint Election Judges
to serve on Election Day. Each precinct must have a minimum of four judges at all times. The judges
presented on the attached list will serve for both the Primary and General Election. In the event that
additional judges are needed for the General, a supplemental list of judges will be presented to the
Council for appointment.
The City is fortunate to have a large number of volunteers willing to serve as election judges. Since this
election is typically smaller than a presidential election, fewer judges are required. In determining
judges the first priority is to those individuals who submitted their names through the caucuses. We
had a number of new judges from this process alone. Even though a number of previous judges were
not used for this election, their names remain active in our file for the next Presidential General Election.
BUDGET /FISCAL IMPACT: Election Judges are paid $10.00 per hour with a total
cost of approximately $ 3,000, of which has been budgeted.
