I AM CONCERNED WITH THE RIGHTS OF OUR FELLOW CITIZENS AND THE LACK OF PROCESS AND
OPPORTUNITY IN WHICH TO OBTAIN INFORMATION, RESOURCES AND MOST IMPORTANTLY
RESOLUTION TO ISSUES, AND DISCRIMINATION. I FEEL THAT I HAVE A STRONG VOICE THAT I AM
WILLING TO LEND ON BEHALF OF THOSE WHO FEEL THEY DO NOT HAVE ONE. I BEAR WITNESS TO
MANY HUMAN RIGHTS ISSUES ON A DAILY BASIS AND WOULD VALUE THE OPPORTUNITY TO WORK

1 HAVE BEEN A STRONG ADVOCATE AND COMMUNITY LEADER FOR THE PAST TWENTY YEARS. As
THE FOUNDER AND EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF INDEPENDENT LIFESTYLES, INC. A CENTER FOR
INDEPENDENT LIVING, I HAVE WORKED DILIGENTLY TO BREAK DOWN BARRIERS, BOTH
ATTITUDINAL AND PHYSCIAL FOR ALL PEOPLE, BUT ESPECIALLY THOSE WHO HAVE ANY TYPE OF
DISABILITY. MY WORK EXPERIENCES HAVE ALLOWED ME TO BUILD MY CAPACITY AND SKILLS IN
ADVOCATING FOR HUMAN RIGHTS IN THE COURTS, IN THE COMMUNITY AND WITH THE
LEGISLATURE. I HAVE TRAINED THOUSANDS OF COMMUNITY LEADERS, CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS,
BUSINESS LEADERS, LEGISLATORS, EDUCATORS AND HUMAN SERVICE PROFESSIONALS ON HUMAN
RIGHTS, DISABILITY AWARENESS AND RIGHTS AND DIVERSITY. I AM WELL VERSED IN THE MANY

IN 20071 CREATED THE STARFISH PROGRAM IN CONJUNCTION WITH TEhE CENTRAL. MN COMMUNITY
FOUNDATION AS A VOLUNTEER. THIS IS AN INTENSIVE MENTORING PROGRAM FOR WOMEN (OFTEN
OF COLOR. AND/OR DISABLITY) WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED DOMESTIC VIOLENCE OR SEXUAL
ASSAULT. AS A VOLUNTEER, I CONTINUE TO ADMINISTER THE PROGRAM AND MENTOR THE
WOMEN, TEACHING THEM HEALTHY LIVING AND SELF ADVOCACY SKILLS WHILE ASSISTING THEM IN
INTEGRATING WITH THE COMMUNITY IN A MEANINGFUL WAY. THESE WOMEN PARTICIPATE FOR 18
MONTHS IN THIS PROGRAM AND THE FIRST ROUND OF WOMEN HAVE GRADUATED. THROUGH MY
PROGRAM, I REQUIRE THAT AS THE WOMEN BECOME INDEPENDENT, THEY GIVE BACK TO THE
CQMMUNITY IN A MANNER, THAT THEY FIND MEANINGFUL. As A RESULT, I TAUGHT ONE
PARTICIPANT HOW TO START HER OWN NON- PROFIT ORGANIZATION, "NEW HOPE AUTISM CENTER"
WHICH NOW SERVES OUR COMMUNITY TODAY. I CONTINUE TO SERVE ON THIS ORGANIZATIONS

SPEAKER ON SOCIAL JUSTICE.
EACH YEAR I ALSO HOST NUMEROUS FOOD, CLOTHING AND GIFT DRIVES FOR THOSE IN POVERTY IN
OUR COMMUNITY.

OCCURRED IN THE HALLS AT THE CAPITOL, THE INTENSIVE WORK WITH THOSE EXPERIENCING
TRAUMA-GRIEF-POVERTY-DISCRIMINATION, THE DAY TODAY STRUGGLES TO MAKE PEOPLES LIVES
BET AR AND MORE INCLUSIVE, AND IN THE FACES OF THOSE I HAVE DEDICATED MY CAREER IN
SERVING.
