HomeMy WebLinkAbout2010 [05] May 24 PARK BOARD MEETING May 24, 2010 Members Present: Lonnie Abbott, Anne Buckvold, Corey Ehlert, Chad Hausmann, Marge Lesnick, Jennifer Steinkamp, Renee Symanietz, Terry Thene. Guests: Mayor Al Rassier, Aiden McCarty (Eagle Scout) Call to Order: 7:30 p.m. Approval of Minutes: Motion to approve - Lonnie Abbott, Second - Anne Buckvold. Approval of Agenda: Motion to approve – Lonnie Abbott, Second – Anne Buckvold Treasurers Report: Expenditures for purchased park equipment discussed with motion to approve by Marge Lesnick and second by Jennifer Steinkamp. Motion Approved! City Report: Terry Thene reported: 1.All the Centennial Park playground equipment is installed and many compliments received. 2.Insurance will cover the cost to replace the vandalized fencing in Centennial Park. It is to th be installed the week of May 24. 3.Sentence-to-Serve (STS) people are currently painting the bleachers and straightening posts in Millstream Park. 4.The Lions Club has completed the roof replacement on the Millstream Park Shelter. A “Thank You” will be sent to Lion’s Club members. 5.The three-bay swing set for Northland Park has arrived and will installed soon. 6.The County Road 2 bypass trail system was discussed and the city is to pay for the trail connection. The park board wondered why the county is not responsible to pay. Liaison Report: Renee reported that the city sends information packets to new residents and she asked if the park board would like to develop a flyer to put into the packet. Is was agreed upon by the board but who would develop flyer was not finalized. Other: 1.Mayor Rassier discussed the Code of Conduct policy for city officials and the City of Saint Joseph Statement of Values resolution. 2.The Mayor said that holding Park Board meetings in the parks is allowed as long as the meeting date, place and time are posted. 3.The Mayor congratulated the Park Board for their good work and to keep it up. 4.Aiden McCarty presented a project in order to obtain his Eagle Scout badge. The project is to plant between 5 and 15 trees in Centennial and Northland Parks. Aiden presented a diagram of potential tree placement sites. He will lead the project and obtain donations to pay for the trees. A discussion followed with a motion to approve made by Lonnie Abbott and second by Marge Lesnick. Motion Approved! 5.Monument Park Improvement Update: Park Board member Marge Lesnick and three members of the Stearns County Historical Society, including the Chairperson, surveyed the historical monument. The Historical Society will wait to approve the project or not after three bids have been obtained on the repairs. Terry Thene has already obtained two bids and is currently looking for a third contractor to submit a bid. 6.There is a possibility to get the monument not only on the County Registry but also on the Federal Registry. There are certain criteria that need to be met in order to get on the Federal Registry. Chad Hausmann will look into getting a matching grant through the Federal Registry. He will update the status at the next Park Board meeting. 7.Lonnie Abbott brought up the possibility of putting a Port-a-Potty in Northland Park since the new playground equipment is installed and is getting heavy usage. After discussion, Lonnie made a motion with a second by Corey Ehlert. Motion Approved. 8.Anne Buckvold told Park Board members that the Park Board National Conference is coming to Minneapolis in October, 2010. She asked if there was interest in members going. A motion was made by Anne and a second by Corey to look into the city funding for 2 Park Board members to attend the conference. Motion Approved! 9.Anne also discussed a dog park for the city. It was mentioned that this was discussed prior to her becoming a board member and the future Rivers Bend park or East Park are the potential sites.
