FIRE DEPT. Fire Board Agenda Item 4
MEETING DATE: August 4th 2010
AGENDA ITEM: Fire Chief's Report
• Update on the Opticoms, all are up and working.
• The DNR sent us a letter saying that we will NOT be getting a grant this year from them. We
wrote the grant for a new ATV to replace our old one. I also talked to Jason Kern from the
Minnesota DNR and he said that every year you should apply, but you will only get the grant
every other year.
• The Federal Training Grant was opened again this year and we sent a grant in for 2 — FF1, 5 —
FF2, and 3 — Defensive Driving classes at a total of $3975. If we get this, it will help offset our
training budget. The 2 FF1 and 3 Defensive Driving classes will be used for the 3 new
members. We should find out by July 30 if we will receive anything.
• We are still waiting to get our BLS Guidelines back from our Medical Advisor, Mark Halstrom.
He told us that we should be getting them back shortly.
• All 3 of our big trucks have been D.O.T. certified by Maney International. This was done to
stay in compliance with our Insurance Company.
• The 13 out of 27 members that did not have their Class B License with Tanker endorsement
were given the letter, that we talked about at our May meeting, in June when they signed
their time card. Since then, 2- members have gotten their required License. They all know
that they have until January to get this completed.
• The Mutual Aid departments have decided to purchase each department 3 Incident Safety
vest and 1 flashing Tight to help at mutual aid calls. They have also made it mandatory that
each new member on each department must be recognized by a reflective green stripe on
their helmet to let everyone else know that they have either not yet gone thru and past FF1
or that his /her Fire Chief has not given them the go ahead to enter a burning structure. All
this is Safety orientated and will be done on each department so we are all on the same page.
There will be no cost to our department to do this.
• The positions for Fire Chief and 3 Captains positions will be opened up on August 5 and close
October 12` The Fire Chief's position is a 2 -year term along with 2 of the Captains positions.
The other Captains position is a 1 year term. After October 12` the investigating committee
will review all applications and make their recommendations to the Fire Board at the
December 3rd meeting.
