JOSICPF[ Council Agenda Item 4(c) MEETING DATE: September 2, 2010 AGENDA ITEM: Quarterly Gambling Report — Requested Action: Accept the 2 Quarter Report SUBMITTED BY: Finance BOARD /COMMISSION /COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION: None PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION: None BACKGROUND INFORMATION: Per City Ordinance No. 62 each organization conducting lawful gambling within the City of St. Joseph is required to submit copies of their monthly state tax returns to City Hall on a quarterly and annual basis. Per review of the tax returns it some organizations are sufficiently supporting the local community while others are not. Those that have not provided 10% gambling donations to the community typically provide donations in other quarters of the year. Examples of how the organizations are giving back to the community include the following items: Crime Prevention Training Eagle Scout Project Easter Party Counseling Services Legion Baseball Boys State St. Joseph Kidstop Lab School Spring Spectacular Funeral Services Big Brothers /Big Sisters Food Shelf Cookies Flags Kennedy Booster Club City Street Beatification Project City Street Signs Apollo High School BUDGET /FISCAL IMPACT: Information Only ATTACHMENTS: 2nd Quarter Gambling Report REQUESTED COUNCIL ACTION: Accept the 2 Quarter Gambling Report 4(c):1 City of St. Joseph 2010 Quarterly Premise Permit Gambling Report - 2nd Quarter Required St. Joseph Community Organization Net Profits Donation Donations % Donated American Legion Post 328 $ 21,245.63 $ 2,124.56 $ 2,469.96 12% St. Joseph Lion's $ 7,088.00 $ 708.80 $ 1,500.00 21% St. Joseph Jaycees $ 4,478.70 $ 447.87 $ 5,954.25 133% 10% of the net gambling profits are required to be donated within a 15 mile radius of the City of St. Joseph. City of St. Joseph Ordinance No. 62.07 Note: Some organizations provided substantial donations to the St. Joseph community in other quarters. 4(c):2
