Fire Board Agenda Item 4
FIRE DEPT.
MEETING DATE: November 3rd, 2010
AGENDA ITEM: Fire Chief's Report
• The Fire department received the Federal Training Grant that we applied for in the amount of
$3,975.00. The Fire Department needs to pay for the class and they send the information
into the state to get reimburst. This grant can only be used for the cost of certain classes and
the drill time will still come out of our training budget.
• Two of the new members, Brent Johnson and Mike Schmotzer, are in the process of finishing
their FF1 class. The cost of the class will be reimburst from the Federal Training grant that we
received. The other new member, Brian Arms, already had his FF1 class done before being
hired. Brian is on a probation period with the fire department until he has trained with us
and we feel comfortable with him going in at structure fires.
• Brian Arms and Brent Johnson have also taken the Defensive Driving class that will help them
in getting their class B license. Mike Schmotzer was unable to attend and I am working on
getting him into another class. This class will also be paid for by the Federal Training Grant.
All 3 members seem to be getting along great and catching on quick.
• We are still waiting to get our BLS Guidelines back from our Medical Advisor, Mark Halstrom.
He told us that we should be getting them back shortly.
• Unit # 4, the Tanker was recently taken to Engel Fabrication in Sauk Center to get a leaky
discharge fixed from the water tank. The department felt that this could become a Safety
hazard with the cold weather coming up and needed to get it fixed right away.
• Besides the 3 new members, there are only 4 members left who have not gotten their class B
license yet. All 4 of them received the letter back in June and know what the circumstances
are if this is not taken care of by our January meeting.
• The Mutual Aid Association passed out the three new vest and Command center light at our
October meeting. The Fire chief and Assistant will work with the members to get them all up
to speed on how and when to use them.
• The 2 new computers that were approved at our last meeting are up and running. We are
working on getting our members up to speed on how to get in and use them along with trying
to get a few other issues figured out with Judy and Larry.
• The 3 sets of Safety cones have been purchased and are in use. The department wanted to try
the 3 sets first to see how they work before going to by the other 3. So far they have been
working good and we are seeing them get used more than before.
