AGENDA ITEM: Unit # 4 Tanker Valve Issues
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: This Truck was purchase new back in 1999. From the day we put this
truck into service, there have been issues with how the Tanker was made. It has been taken back a few
times because of a water trail that it used to leave on the roads every time we used it, the intake piping
on the rear of the truck has also been address because the pipes were loose and would move around
when we fill the truck, and the 2 discharges on the rear and side are not an easy issue. We have since
fixed the first 2 issues, and we had Engel out of Sauk Center give us a bid to put electric actuators in.
This truck is not scheduled to be replaced until at least 2019 and there are many of the members who
complain out the discharges and some that can barely get them open.
BUDGET /FISCAL IMPACT: Up to $9,400.00

REQUESTED ACTION: Fire Board needs to look at what would be the best to do about this issue.

Install two Newton model 1045 stainless steel 10" square quick dump to rear and side
1. Stainless steel rear dump with electric actuator and aluminum tip down extension chute
2. Switches at dump valve and in chassis cab
3. Stainless steel side dump with electric actuator and stainless steel manual extension chute
4. Switches at dump valve and in chassis cab
NOTE: It will be necessary to tear down top of tank and reassemble to gain access
Estimated labor: $3,600.00
Estimated materials: $5.800.00
Estimated total cost: $9,400.00
OPTION:
Electric actuated telescoping extension chute on side dump
$2,500.00
NOTE: Labor rate $60.00 per hour, 60 hours estimated total time for project.
