J(NH PH Council Agenda Item 4(d) MEETING DATE: February 17, 2011 AGENDA ITEM: Annual Gambling Report — Requested Action: Accept the Annual /4th Quarter Report SUBMITTED BY: Finance BOARD /COMMISSION /COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION: None PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION: None BACKGROUND INFORMATION: Per City Ordinance No. 62 each organization conducting lawful gambling within the City of St. Joseph is required to submit copies of their monthly state tax returns to City Hall on a quarterly and annual basis. Per review of the tax returns it some organizations are sufficiently supporting the local community while others are not. Those that have not provided 10% gambling donations to the community typically provide donations in other quarters of the year. Examples of how the organizations are giving back to the community include the following items: Crime Prevention Training Counseling Services St. Joseph Kidstop Big Brothers /Big Sisters Kennedy Booster Club Apollo High School Catholic Charities Park Benches School Halloween Party Veteran's Day Parade BUDGET /FISCAL IMPACT: ATTACHMENTS: Eagle. Scout Project School Easter Party Legion Baseball Boys State Lab School Spring Spectacular Funeral Services Food Shelf Flags City Street Beatification Project City Street Signs St. Joseph Dollars for Scholars St. Joseph Fire Works Vacation Bible School Fire Dept Calendars Private donation for family with medical condition SCSU/Teachers College Returning Veterans Kids Against Hunger Church Bulletin Information Only Request for Council Action 4(d):1 Annual /41h Quarter Gambling Report 4(d):2 REQUESTED COUNCIL ACTION: Accept the Annual /4th Quarter Gambling Report 4(d):1 City of St. Joseph 2010 Quarterly Premise Permit Gambling Report - 4th Quarter /Annual American Legion Post 328 $ 44,619.96 $ 4,462.00 $ 5,274.96 12% St. Joseph Lion's $ 15,790.00 $ 1,579.00 $ 5,637.00 36% St. Joseph Jaycees $ 14,685.97 $ 1,468.60 $ 13,575.87 92% 10% of the net gambling profits are required to be donated within a 15 mile radius of the City of St. Joseph. City of St. Joseph Ordinance No. 62.07 Note: Some organizations provided substantial donations to the St. Joseph community in other quarters. The St. Joseph Lion's Club contributes significant funds to the community through their general fund. The general fund contributions are not reflected in this report. 4(d):2
