Landscapping Plan Implementation

Backgroundd:
In 2009 the EEconomic Devvelopment Auuthority authoorized a landscape/streetsccape plan by
locally-ownedd Scenic Speecialties. The plan focused on an area frrom the Wobeegon Trail Ceenter
to West Minnnesota Street//CSAH 2. Thee purpose of tthe landscapee/streetscapee plan was
multifacetedbut included:
Prommoting downtoown revitalizaation
Connnecting the WWobegon Trail Center to Doowntown and to (new) CSAAH 2
Spurrring discussioon and give pproperty owneers and donorrs an idea of wwhat ‘could be’
Provviding pedestrrians/bicyclistss visual cues as to how to get to Downttown from thee trail
Softeening hardscaapes at speciffic intersectioons (i.e. CSAHH 75/College AAve; Minnesoota
St/Coollege Ave.; CCSAH 75/1333)

A copy of thee full plan will be available at the EDA mmeeting for refference/revieww. Attached tto this
memo are immages relatingg to property oowned by thee City on eitheer side of the wwater tower (
i.e.
next to Wobeegon Trail), pootential landsscaping/entry marker signaage for softening CSAH
75/College AAvenue interseection, and pootential mediaan treatmentss for CSAH 755/College andd
CSAH 75/1333.
The landscappe/streetscappe plan was accepted by thhe City Counccil in June of 22010 and
presented to the Chamberr of Commercce at an October meeting. Since the document was
accepted by the Council, tthe EDA has been workingg on various ccomponents oof the plan (e..g
with Kay’s Kitchen and witth another prooperty owner) in an attemppt to get the pproject startedd. At
this point thoose projects have not moveed to a successsful conclusion.
