Fire Board Agenda Item 4 MEETING D ATE: February 2nd, 2011 AGENDA ITEM: Fire Chiefs Report The last three members are still on track for getting their minimum requirements done. We are waiting to here back from the State Certification board on Brent Johnson's and Mike Schmotzer's card. Brent has finished and passed his First Responder and we are working with all three of them to get their Class B License with Tanker endorsement. All three started July 13th, 2010. Dr. Mark Halstrom, our Medical Advisor, has completed the BLS Guidelines. We will be meeting with him in the next month or so to go over it. A medical advisor is someone in which we are able to work under his doctor license. He sets guidelines for us to follow during all medical emergencies calls. At our last Fire Board Meeting, we discussed the two members who had not yet been able to get the Class B License. Since, than Greg has passed his behind the wheel and is no longer on probation. He does know that while he was out, he missed quite a few calls and needs to make up for lost time to make his 20% by the end of the year. Amanda Cherne has been on medical leave due to a back injury at her job with Gold Cross, she has lifting restrictions of 40lbs. Before she was out on leave and after, myself and a few other members have tried to help her get in to get her license done. She has not turned anything in yet and it is my feeling that if and when she returns from her Medical Leave, that she will be suspended from responding to all emergency calls and drills until she has completed her license. She will have the same format as Greg did in that her yearly percentage will still be active. Training update. We completed our yearly First Responder class and our 16 hour Hazmat Operations class. We are looking at if we all need to get State Certified for this or not. The State Certification board has made a few changes in the past year or so, in that now when you take FF1 you also take the Hazmat Operations part and get State Certified. Any member of the SJFD that has done this in the past only is Hazmat Awareness and if they have not already taken the FF2 class and would like to, they need to take the test to be Certified with the state. • The scanner and copier machine's that were approved at our last meeting are installed and we are working on getting our Fire Department information scanned in and onto the city server.
