AGENDA ITEM: Firefighter Appointment— Requested Action: Appoint
Sharon Young and Bradley Albertson to the St. Joseph
Volunteer Fire Department.

COMMISSION /BOARD RECOMMENDATION: The Fire Board is recommending he Council accept the
recommendation of the Fire Department Investigating Committee and appoint Sharon Young and
Bradley Albertson to the St. Joseph Volunteer Fire Department.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The Fire Board authorized the Volunteer Fire Department to solicit
applications for volunteer fire fighter to fill the open positions created by retirements. The Department
received eleven applications for four open positions. When the applications were screened four moved
to the, top and started the hiring process, but two have since dropped out. The Department will solicit
applications again later this year. As a policy it is prudent to send two through training at the same time.

REQUESTED COUNCIL ACTION: Accept the recommendation of the Fire Board and appoint Sharon
Young and Bradley Albertson as volunteer firefighters conditioned on completing the physical
requirements.
