AGENDA ITEM: Equipment Replacement, Pagers
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: Our pagers that allow each member to be notified of an emergency are
becoming out dated. The Federal Government has set a December 31st 2012 date that every pager
must be switched to a Narrow Band. We have been working on getting this done however, Stearns
County has now updated all there paging software and I was told that we need to switch over by the end
of this year. We have 18 pagers that can get reprogrammed ($35.00 each) but are short 12. The older
style cannot be reprogrammed. I need to purchase 14 new pagers, 12 for members and I need at least 2
for back up, as soon as possible.
BUDGET /FISCAL IMPACT: Reprogram 18 Pagers @ $35.00 /ea $630.00
Purchase 14 New Pagers @ $506.00 /ea $7,571.03
Total $8,201.03

REQUESTED ACTION: Have the Fire Board approve to reprogram 18 pagers and purchase 14 new
pagers. (We were unable to make it to the Chief's Conference this year and because of a State Training
grant, our training money did not get all used up and I was thinking that we could shift this money over
to take care of this.)
