SUBMITTED BY: Administration BOARD /COMMISSION /COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION: On behalf of the St. Joseph Saints Baseball Team, Pat Schneider presented a request to the Park Board to utilize sales tax funds. The request included the purchase and installation of an electronic scoreboard at Schneider Fields. In February the Park Board forwarded unanimous recommendation to the City Council requesting funding of the sign using and equal amount of sales tax and park dedication fees ($ 7,500 / $ 7,500), Sentry Bank would contribute $ 4,000 and the Baseball Association would contribute $ 1,000 and any overage. PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION: In 2011 the City Council requested Schneider approach service clubs and organizations for possible funding. Since that time Schneider has secured funding in the amount of $ 4,000. The Council considered this matter again on March 1, 2012 and tabled action until all members of the Council are present and additional detail regarding total costs could be provided to the Council for review. BACKGROUND INFORMATION: Administration was asked to check around to see what other communities have done. The following is a summary as of the writing of this memo, some Cities have not yet respond. Cold Spring Sign funded by a pop distributor in exchange for exclusive selling of their product. Albany Small electronic scoreboard, managed by the home plate umpire — cost was approximately $ 4,000 and funded by two local businesses Avon Planning a sign approximately $ 60,000 of which they are in the process of soliciting donations. Since the last meeting Pat Schneider has also provided the total cost of the project including contractor work. That information is included in your packet as well.
