MEETING DATE: April 5, 2012
AGENDA ITEM JPA — Authorized execution of the JPA Creating the Central MN
Violent Offender Task Force.
SUBMITTED BY: Police Chief
BOARD / COMMISSION /COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION: None
PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION: See Below
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The cities of St. Joseph, Waite Park, Sauk Rapids and Sartell
share the cost of a person who is in the gang and drug task force. Since we passed the last joint powers
agreement, the two task forces from Central MN Drug Task Force and the St. Cloud Drug and Gang Task
Force have combined. Both agencies received funding through the State and the State will no longer fund
both agencies so the Task Forces will be combined. The new task force is now the Central MN Violent
Offender Task Force. This action does not change any terms or costs; it simply creates the new agency.
BUDGET/FISCAL IMPACT: No change same as before.
ATTACHMENTS: Request for Council Action
Joint Powers Agreement
REQUESTED COUNCIL ACTION: Authorize the Mayor and Administrator to execute the JPA
eliminating the Central MN Drug Task Force and becoming a partner in the Central MN Violent Offender
Task Force.
