HomeMy WebLinkAbout[02] Minutes Saint Joseph Park Board Meeting Minutes, February 27, 2012 Members Present; Marguerite Fogarty (Secretary), Lonnie Abbott, John Anderson (Chairman), Andrew Deuhs, Sharon Young, Terry Thene (Staff Liaison), Bob Loso (Councilor Liaison) Members Absent; Chad Hausmann Guests; Pat Schneider Meeting Called to Order; 6:30pm Approval of Minutes; Motion to Approve - Marguerite, 2 Andrew Treasurers Report; Ending balance of Park board funds- $72,723 Liaison Report; Bob Loso- a. Proposed Senior Development dedication funds would result in approximately $23,400 for the first phase and a second phase will result in approximately another $34,000. b. A discussion was held regarding the potential community center. The plans are long -range. Terry Thene - a. The proposal for sidewalks connecting to the trail system is going to the City Council for approval. b. The benches along Minnesota Ave. have been removed for restoration. The project is complete and they will be replaced when the weather permits. c. Several trees at Klinefelter Park died this winter and will have to be removed. Old Business; a. John Anderson is going to check on the availability of a Legacy Grant to restore the monument. Terry Thene will re -send the estimates for the project. b. Pat Schneider attended the meeting to determine where the Park Board stands on his request for funds to install an electronic scoreboard for the baseball field. He shared photos of sample scoreboards. He currently has donations of $5,000 to be put toward the total cost of $18,000 to $20,000. Sharon made the motion to support the installation of the electronic scoreboard where $7,500 should be contributed by Park Board Development Funds, $7,500 paid with local sales tax monies and $5,000 from local contributions. The motion was seconded by Lonnie. c. Regarding the Cloverdale Park/Community Garden, public response has been low. The Board would like to read any responses received in order to determine if there is a demand for such a project. The option of using space near the water plant was discussed. Bob Loso suggested that the Park Board plan a trip to Cloverdale Park and invite residents from that area to give us their input, since it will be closest to their homes. This idea was met with a favorable response. New Business; a. A possible date was set for an Earth Day city -wide park clean-up. The activity will be held on Saturday, April 21, in the afternoon. John Anderson suggested that we contact groups to work at each park and conclude with a cook out. After some discussion we determined that the following groups would be contacted by members: Summer Rec. (Millstream), Boy Scouts (Klinefelter), Girl Scouts (Centennial and Monument Parks), and Baseball Team (Baseball Park). b. Monument spring plantings will be completed by Marguerite with annuals. She requested some edging to be installed at the site. She and Terry will stop by and look over the area when the snow melts. Marguerite also expressed concern about the appearance of the perennials located near other monument. Terry said the local Legion had that area planted. He will discuss this with them. c. Sharon shared with the group that registration for Summer Rec. will be held on Saturday, March 3 She has been in contact with the College of St. Benedict to use their field. She was told that they need liability insurance to access that location. She is waiting to hear from insurance agent regarding this issue.
