HomeMy WebLinkAbout[05] Approve Minutes Saint Joseph Park Board Meeting Minutes, March 26, 2012 Members Present; Marguerite Fogarty (Secretary), John Anderson (Chairman), Andrew Deuhs, Lonnie Abbott, Chad Hausmann, Sharon Young, Bob Loso (Councilor Liaison), Terry Thene (Staff Liaison) Meeting Called to Order; 6:30 p.m. Approval of Minutes; Approved. Approval of Agenda; Approved. Treasurers Report; Nothing additional. Liaison Reports: Bob Loso- a. Council did not approve use of Sales Tax for electronic scoreboard. Council did approve use of Park Board Funds for scoreboard. Pat Schneider has one sponsor donating $10,000. The actual cost has increased $3,000 since original bid. Terry Thene - a. Nelson's Outhouse cost for outhouse is $75 per month at Klinefelter Park. The unit is in place. b. Centennial Park has had vandalism. Police are taking action. Parks will open in May. Old Business; a. Monument Restoration- At this time no progress has been made on Legacy Grant. Terry asked that the Park Board decide the scope of repairs needed and bring this plan to the City Council to authorize for approval. There was discussion about repairing the monument in stages. This may not be feasible. The motion was made to request that the City Council approve the Park Board apply for Legacy Funds to rehabilitate the monument. The motion was made by Chad, second by Lonnie. b. Website Development - Waiting for new vendor. Details will be forthcoming. c. Cloverdale /Community Garden- Fourteen people responded in favor of a Community Garden. There were no specific choices of location. John suggested that at our next meeting we begin our meeting at Cloverdale Park to look at that location. It was suggested that we note this in the local paper so interested residents could give input. Bob pointed out that that in the original Master Plan was to have an aesthetic garden there (In '08 at the estimated cost of'/ million $) Discussion on this subject will continue after meeting at Cloverdale next month. d. Earth Day Park Clean -up- Some changes were made due to conflicts. The Girl Scouts can work on the 28 the Boy Scouts can work on the 22 These two groups will provide their own food. Summer Rec. is available on the 21' at Millstream as originally requested. The Lions Club will supply food for this group. Sharon will inform John of the numbers of volunteers expected so he can tell the Lions. Clean -up is expected to last from 12-4. The project will include general litter removal and anything else Terry suggests. John will provide a list of suggestions encouraging adult supervision. St. Bens also has a clean -up campaign near that date. Pictures should be taken for local newspaper so groups can be recognized. New Business; a. July 4 5K- The Lions formerly sponsored this event, but due to lack of workers, possible conflicts with other events registration became low. The last July 4` 5K was held 2 years ago. Mayor Schultz offered to talk to the Lions Club about this. One suggestion was to hold a 1 K for Summer Rec. kids. b. Community Fitness /Wellness- John suggested a walk with possible routes from various points in the community. Chad is going to e-mail a list of ideas that his business has used. It was suggested that a map could be made up of the local parks and trails between. c. Wheel Chair Swing (Northland) - Gametime Equipment manual did not include a price for this item. Chad said there is one at Kennedy Elementary. John will look at the one at that location. d. Liability Insurance for Summer Rec. - Sharon received a quote of $800-$],000 from Omann Insurance for coverage for the use of St. Ben's softball fields. 149 kids registered for Summer Rec. on March 3` Summer Rec. has 13 Sponsors. Fees are set at $10 -$20. Chad suggested a meat raffle, brat sale, etc. as a fund balance. Tuesday night games will be held at Schneider Field. Other; a. Lonnie questioned what happened to Phase 3 at Northland Park. Terry will check with officials in Waite Park to see how much use their park receives. b. The Park Board received a packet of budget for each park. The Park Board needs to review this budget and submit proposal to City Council for their review.
