Council Agenda Item 7(c)
MEETING DATE: May 3rd 2012
AGENDA ITEM: Street Sweeper, Declare Surplus
SUBMITTED BY: Public Works
BOARD / COMMISSION /COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION:
PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION: None
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The 1977 Elgin Pelican Sweeper has reached the end of its useful
life. The repairs to make this sweeper useful again would be approximately $18,500.00 with no
guarantees on how long it would last. Staff asked MacQueen Equipment about the value of this piece of
equipment and was informed it has a scrap value of $1,000.00. I talked to Astech and they would be
willing to pay the City $1,500.00 for the sweeper.
The City is currently using the 1997 Elgin Pelican sweeper to clean up the City streets. The equipment
repair funds are best used on the 1997 Elgin Pelican sweeper to keep it operational and not the 1977 Elgin
Pelican sweeper.
This 1977 Elgin sweeper has no working value to the City and is taking up space. Staff would like to sell
this sweeper as soon as possible.
BUDGET/FISCAL IMPACT: Sale amount used to increase 101- 43220 -230 (Sweeper Repair and
Maintenance)
ATTACHMENTS: Macqueen equipment inspection letter
REQUESTED COUNCIL ACTION: Staff requests the 1977 Elgin Pelican sweeper be named as
surplus equipment. Staff also request council authorization to sell the 1977 Elgin Pelican Sweeper.

Jim, after inspecting your 1977 Elgin Pelican the value of the unit for scrap $1000. The cost to repair the unit
would far exceed the value of the unit. I Q, 5Cr) Via,. u•+,►c.04 YnepQ:
