MEETING DATE: May 9th, 2012 AGENDA ITEM: Unit # 5 BACKGROUND INFORMATION: Unit # 5 is our rescue rig and responds to 99.9% of our calls. This truck was purchased new back in 1997 at a cost of $82,034.21 with an expected life of 10 years. In 2011, the Fire Board approved to purchase a New Fire Pumper Truck and agreed with the Fire Chief that the board would look at replacing this unit this year, 2012. The truck was out of service four times last year and has already been out twice this year for repairs. The Fire Chief and Assistant has met with Everest Emergency Vehicles and talked with Arrow Mfg. about the replacements options. Everest sells brand new trucks and Arrow sells a new chassis with a reconditioned box. Everest believes we would get anywhere from 15,000 - 20,000 for our old unit and anywhere from 120,000 to 150,000 for a new rig. Arrow believes we would get about 25,000 for the old model and anywhere from 90,000 to 120,000 for a new rig. We have also talked about gas model vs a diesel model. Right know we have a diesel and it has worked well, however there are a lot more mechanical issues that come about with a diesel. With the gas model, you have a few Tess mechanical issues but you give a little up on the pick up and go. You get better fuel mileage with a diesel than gas, but diesel cost per gallon is always higher then gas. A diesel model will cost about 15,000 to 20,000 more than a gas model. Basically, the tried and true E -450 that has been around for years in the ambulance industry, just coupled with their V -10 gas engine instead of the diesel. The V -10 seems to be performing pretty well. We have a lot of customers going that direction also. There's maybe a little trade -off in power for the money, but all in all, it's a very good option. We have just completed another one for stock and it can be viewed on our website at: http://arrowmfginc.com/listing/truck/16204/ This is a top of the line McCoy Miller box with all of the nicest features. I would be happy to show it to you sometime if you would like. I could even bring it up if you want, but I do think it would be a great opportunity for you to come down here and drive both the Ford E450 gas and the Chevy G4500 diesel to compare models. We have both here that you could drive and compare. I have pictures and specs on my website in the new trucks tab. You are looking at $147,487 includes average graphics, freight, Ford GPC and NCEMSC pricing. The unit( #6199) l have in the attachments is a diesel as well, BUT it can be switched to a gas for you if we hurry- it is scheduled to complete late July. Please look these over and feel free to call me to go over this. This to be built unit is $136,346 w/ gas engine includes average graphics, freight, Ford GPC and NCEMSC pricing. This will be our best option, unless we really dummy down a new build(7 months) $128,000ish. The trade- I still personally think we can get $15- 17,000 retail- maybe more to the right service. Now I know that a wholesale trade will probably be half that so let's get this on our website and show it off. Other ways of moving these is www.govdeals.com and the ambulance trader.
