BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The police department is looking to replace the first two tasers purchased in 2006. On the following CIP form they are the tasers #1 and #2. We currently have two tasers that need to be sent in for repairs. If they can be repaired I would like to take the first tasers and give them to our reserve officers. We currently trying to phase out our old M -26 tasers the reserves use as they require rechargeable batteries and the batteries are in need of replacing. We have had very good luck with our tasers but we are in need of updating. The Tasers non - leathel means to gain control and compliance of persons who want to fight or due harm to themselves. The Taser does not take the place of firearms, but gives the officers another tool at their disposal. Replacement of Tasers will be around 5 years. Next replacement is 2010 and 2011.
