Fire Board Agenda Item 4
FIRE DEPT.
MEETING DATE: August 12th, 2012
AGENDA ITEM: Fire Chief's Report
• Class B License Report: Brian Arms passed his Class B License test on May 11th and has now
completed all of his minimum requirements and was accepted onto the Fire Relief
Association and the Fire Department on July 10th. Mike Schmotzer and Brent Johnson were
put on suspension on the 13th of July due to not having all of their minimum requirements
done in the two year window. Since then, Brent has passed his Class B License and is now
active again. Mike Schmotzer has a test time lined up in the middle of August. Sharon Young,
who was hired in July of 2011 also needs to get this completed. One of the last three
members, Cory Molitor, also needs to get this taken care of.
• Turn Out Gear: The new gear should be arriving with in the next few weeks.
• Mike Folkerts, Cory Molitor, and Ron Schmidt started their FF1 class on June 11th with a
completion date of September 17th.
• New Pumper: The Truck committee went down to Rosenbauer in Wyoming Mn on July 11th
to check on the progress of the new pumper. Everything looked great and only had to make a
few minor changes. The Truck is now going to be ready on August 7th for us to pick up,
which is about 1 to 2 months ahead of schedule.
• Rescue Van: At the May Fire Board meeting, the board made a recommendation for the Chief
and Assistant to make a trip down to Rock Rapids la. to take a good look at the trucks that
Arrow Mfg. make and bring back to the Fire Board. Due to the time of the year, both the
Chief and Assistant have not been able to line up a day yet because of their daily jobs, but I
have been staying in contact with Terry at Arrow and we will be making a trip down soon.
• DNR Grant: We applied for a 50/50 grant through the DNR to purchase 2 new pagers and 12
new batteries for our portable radio, but found out last week we will not be getting the grant
this year.
• AFG Grant: The department hired Niel Meierhofer from the Belgrade area to write our AFG
grant for us this year. We submitted it to the state on July 3rd and hope to here back by the
end of August whether we received it or not. We wrote the grant for 16 new SCBA's, 32 Air
bottles and 30 new mask, at a cost of $93,880.00.
• Check Out Board: We are still trying to set a time to meet with other local departments to
look at their Check Out Boards and ask how it's working.
