St. Joseph Park Board Minutes
June 25, 2012

St. Joseph City Hall
Members Present:
Marguerite Fogarty (Secretary), John Anderson (Chairman), Lonnie Abbott,
Bob Loso (Councilor Liaison), Terry Thene (Staff Liaison), Andrew Deuhs, Sharon Young

The preliminary budget for 2013 is due in early August.
Bob received a request for a dog park in town. He listened to a speaker recently who said having
parks of this nature draws people of the next generation to live in towns that provide that feature.
Bob said he will try to get a copy of the speech and share it with us. This will be put on an
agenda of a future meeting.
Terry Thene
:
Due to the amount of rain that recently fell, the crew has been doing a great deal of mowing!
Terry is meeting with a young man regarding an Eagle Scout project. Terry’s idea is a gazebo at
Cloverdale Park.
No new vandalism has occurred.
Old Business:
Website Development:
There is no new development here. By early fall there should be a plan.
Cloverdale Park:
Marguerite is meeting with a designer from Scenic Specialties later this week.
She will update progress at the next meeting.
Millstream 5K:
John has not heard from the Lions regarding their support of this event. The
mayor is contacting the Lions.
Community Social:
John has reserved a shelter for this event for August 18.
Terry shared that Sept. 18, 19, 20 are the dates for Waterfest at Millstream Park.
Bob informed the group that approximately $5,000 was given to the city by a youth hockey
association to use for winter activities.
New Business:
Northland Playground:
John got a second quote for Phase 3 from Gametime. This quote was
$6,000 higher than the previous one. The two quotes will go to the Council. An additional $700
will be added for wood chips.
New Members:
Chad Hausmann has resigned from the Board. John is going to ask Judy if there
are any current applications. We are asked to consider anyone we might think should join.
Discussion of Joint Meeting:
In regard to the discussion about parking needs in town, John is
going to recommend bike racks to accommodate the people we draw from the trails.
Trees:
Lonnie suggested we include money for new trees in next year’s budget. We will
determine the number of trees to be replaced in area parks. Terry has estimates of cost he will
share with us.
Adjournment:

Tentatively planned for July 23, 2012.
