JOSEPH MEETING DATE: September 6, 2012 AGENDA ITEM: Archery Range SUBMITTED BY: Public Works BOARD / COMMISSION /COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION: The Park Board is supportive of the City of St. Joseph Archery Range PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION: None BACKGROUND INFORMATION: In the past the City of St. Joseph had an Archery Range in Millstream Park. It is my understanding the range was removed due to conflicts with other activities in the park. Staff is proposing to set up a new archery range on the very SE corner of City property at Water Treatment Plant 2 site next to Kelp Rd. Staff has approached Archery Country and requested their design input and partnership. Archery Country was excited for the opportunity to work with the City. • Archery Country has agreed to donate 10 targets. The targets retail over $300.00 each. These targets need to be ordered as soon as possible, it will take several weeks to receive the targets • Archery Country would staff clinics on site to assist with archer's equipment and technique; this would be advertised at Archery Country and in local papers as an event. • Archery Country would recommend their cliental to the St. Joseph Archery Range. • Archery Country would provide maps at their store to the St. Joseph Archery Range. Park Board The park board and staff will solicit donations for added features such as • Pavilion • Picnic table • Concrete work • Class V parking area • Signage • Labor The Archery Range will be regional in use BUDGET/FISCAL IMPACT: Estimated two hours per week in warmer months to maintain; $500.00 per year for repair and maintenance issues.
