~ ~ ~ 1St. Joseph Park and Trail System Plan
Spring is a time is a time for new beginnings and this spring heralds in the kick-off of St. Joseph's
Park and Trail System planning process. Park and trail system planning provides a tool by which the
City can successfully address current and future issues and opportunities. By maintaining an
adequate supply of parkland with well-developed and maintained facilities, the City will continue to
provide resources that contribute to the rich quality of life of its residents.
The project, under the guidance of the Park Board began on May 19, 2008 and will continue through
October 2008. Public input will be sought during major phases of the project beginning with the
Visioning Phase, which will be done in concert with the Comprehensive Plan's park section element.
Other components of the Park and Trail System Plan include an evaluation of demographics and
trends, current park facilities and future park needs. The project will also include diagrammatic park
concepts for each of St. ,Joseph's eight parks and the development of key strategies to achieve the
recommended park vision. A Park and Trail System Plan will be drafted that compiles key research
findings, the vision, mission, goals, objectives, and policies, as well as priorities for the next ten years.
There will be a number of updates on the City's website (See Park and Trail System Plan) for the
public to keep abreast of the planning process urcluding the draft plan, which will be available later
this surmner, and summaries of project meetings.
