The current refuse contract ended December 31, 2008. The alanrassier@yahoo.com new refuse contract will take effect January 1, 2009 and will extend for a three year period. Councilor Dale Wick 1211 Dale Street East One of the new components of the refuse contract is a program entitled "Recylcing St. Joseph MN 56374 320-363-0221 Bank". This program will reward customers for recylcing with access to vendor contactdalewick@hotmail.com coupons. Allied Waste/BFI is in the process of securing vendors for this area. It is anticipated that the Recylcing Bank program will begin sometime late Spring. DON'T FORGET TO SHOVEL The St. Joseph Police Department arrd Public Works Department are enforcing the snow removal Ordinance. Just a reminder that winter parking restrictions take effect November 1. St. ose h Code of Ordinance 84.05 states: Section 84.05: SNOW SEASON PARKING. Subd. 1: There shall be no parking on any City street from November 1 to April 1, during the hours of 2:00 A.M. and 7:00 A.M. Subd. 2: Any vehicles parked in violation of Sec- tion 84.03.1, which interfere with the plowing or removal of snow, are subject to immediate towing at the owner's expense. As long was we are talking about winter, don't forget about the sidewalk. St..Toseph Code of Ordinances also require Section 33.03: REMOVAL OF SNOW AND OBSTRUCTIONS. The owner of each lot, part of lot, parcel and piece of land within the City shall remove or cause to be removed from the sidewalks or walks adjacent thereto all snow, ice, dirt and rubbish within twenty four ~ hours after the same has been ~~^ ~~~~~~~ deposited on the sidewalk or ~y walk. If such owner fails or ne- ~~~ glects to remove the same within , e a twenty four hours, the City ~' Council may cause the same to be removed and shall assess the cost of removal against the fronting lots, parts of lots, parcels and pieces of land. The Police Department has started ticketing property owners for not shoveling their sidewalk. In addition to receiving a police citation, the Public Works Director contracts with a private contractor to have the snow removed. All cost associated with snow removal will be assessed to the property owner. Park Board Opening The Mayor is accepting applications for an open position on the St. Joseph Park Board. The Park Board meeting once a month and is responsible for park development. The City recently completed a Master Park Plan which is available on the City website. Applicants must reside in the City of St. Joseph and applications are available at the City Offices are on the City Website. AARP flR/VCR SAfSTY PROGRAM The City of St. Joseph is excited to sponsor the AARP Senior Driver Safety Course. The ` AARP Driver Safety Program is the nation's first and largest refresher course for drivers ~, age 50 and older that has helped millions of drivers remain safe on the road. The program will: ** Tune up your driving skills and update your knowledge of the rules of the road. ** Learn about normal age-related physical changes and how to adjust your driving to allow for these changes. * *Reduce your traffic violations, crashes, and chances for injury. * * Get an insurance discount. The classes will be offered at the Fire Hall, 323---4th Avenue NE. The registration fee for the Safety Class is $ 8.00 per person. ** Initial Course March 7, 2009 8AM to 4PM Sept 12, 2009 8AM to 4PM ** Refresher Course March 4, 2009 5:30 PM to 9:30PM Sept 2, 2009 5:30PM to 9:30PM Dec 2, 2009 5:30PM to 9:30PM Register by contacting the City Offices at 320-363-7201. cirr w~ssif~ The staff at the City Offices has been working on updating the website, providing additional information to the residents. When looking at the website you will notice a calendar of meet- ings which lists the scheduled meetings. As agendas and packets are prepared they are placed on the site as well. To access the packet material all you need to do is click on the calendar date where a meeting is scheduled and an agenda will appear. A link has been provided for each agenda item that has information for each separate item. The City Council hopes you find this infor- mation useful. RESERVATIONS FOR PARKS The City Office is taking reservations for the following facilities: Centennial Park (located on 2nd Avenue NW); Millstream Park (located on CR 75); Wobegon Welcome Center (located on CR 2); St. Joseph Community Fire Hall (located at 323~th Ave NE). To make reservations for any of the facilities listed above please contact the City Offices at 320-363-7201 or stop by the office at 25 College Avenue North. All facilities re- quire a damage deposit and rental fee. These rates can be ob- tained by calling the City Offices: Rental rates are not refundable and the City will not hold dates.
