If NO: who should be involved and what should the process be? If YES: Choose the top two statements from the list below that best describe what you think the vision of this document should be. Remember the vision is the imaqe of or concept for the future of the Downtown. — in the future Downtown will look like the place to be. — In the future Downtown will look like the social, cultural, and commercial center and premier destination to live, work, play, visit, invest, and conduct business. — In the future Downtown will look like a vital, inviting downtown which promotes quality business, cultural opportunities, and community growth. — In the future the Downtown will look like a place where tomorrow meets tradition – an attractive livable city center and a thriving, diverse market place where all are welcomed to gather and celebrate our unique heritage and patriotism. — In the future the Downtown will look like a place where value and vitality are preserved and enhanced. — In the future the Downtown will look like the center for community events, unique shops and services, and casual and upscale dining and entertainment. Public investment will have redeveloped the streetscape from new CSAH 2 to College Avenue. Public green spaces wiil feature an abundance of places to mingle and linger. The sound of running water will reverberate through the Downtown. The buildings and developments will be unified but not mirror images of one another or centered on an obvious 'theme'. Private investment aided by grants and financing programs will continue to restore the historic facades and spatial relationships of buildings in the Downtown. The building at the northwest quadrant of Minnesota Street and College Avenue will have been restored to its original beauty and be occupied. Downtown living will be popular with a mix of affordable and market rate housing; including loft apartments, empty nester housing, student housing, and single family owner occupied housing. The area will be home to working artists, musicians, academic institutions, and unique service, retail, and specialty store businesses. Entrepreneurs will be encouraged to locate in Downtown to develop new specialty retail and service operations to serve the expanding Downtown customer base. People will stroll along we110-lit sidewalks alive with residents and visitors, you and old, enjoying public art, outdoor dining, open businesses and the many events staged Downtown. Walking and biking routes will make downtown easily accessible from all areas of the community and the Wobegon Trail. — In the future the Downtown will look like the heart of the City and the center for community and economic development. It will have an inviting appearance, highlighted by historic elements reminiscent of a German hamlet. The Downtown will enhance the civic, cultural, and economic l vitality of the entire community. Downtown will be a strong center for business, and an entertainment and learning destination with: a. A clean, well-lit, and inviting appearance day and night. b. Attractive storefronts occupied with a variety of appealing retail and service businesses. c. Activities that will attract and benefit area residents, visitors, industry, and the college/university community. d. Historic architecture that offers visual unity and provides a lesson German in history and culture. e. Unified retail and service businesses with a reputation for teamwork and customer service. f. A reputation as a creative and lively center where people will shop, enjoy each other's company, remember traditional small-town downtowns, and be compelled to return to time and time again. — In the future the Downtown will look like (Have a picture not a statement). - 1 _"',, - f -- _ .,, ` _ - — - ` .i - , j ,..i_.! ,.
