HomeMy WebLinkAbout2012 [10] Oct 30th St. Joseph Park Board Minutes � October 30, 2012 7:00 p.m. St. Joseph City Hall Members Present: Marguerite Fogarty(Secretary), John Anderson(Chairman), Lonnie Abbott, Bob Loso (Councilor Liaison), Terry Thene(Staff Liaison), Andrew Deuhs, Call to Order: 6:30 p.m. Approval of Minutes: Approved Approval of A�enda: Approved Liaison Reports: Bob Loso: The budget was generally approved. Terrv Thene: The Parks are shut down for the season. Regarding the Archery Range; Signs directing people to the range will be going up. Regulations and range etiquette signs will be posted. Lions are considering donating money for the Pavilion. Old Business: a. Cloverdale Park: John suggested that we invite neighbors of that area to our next meeting so we can get plans in place. John will contact Judy regarding addresses of homes surrounding that paxk area. � b. Budget for Joe To�vn Snow Days: The Youth Hockey fund balance of$1435 should be adequate. E-mails will be sent informally as information is gathered by committee members. c. New Members: No new information currently. New Business• a. Budget: John will meet with the City Council expressing the importance of parks to the community. b. Dog Park: Several possible locations were discussed. These included Millstream,near the Ball Park or the Soccer Field. Costs could include fencing the area in, trees, trails, water features, benches or picnic tables. This discussion will be added to the agenda next month to look at possible locations. Adjournment: 7:30 / Special Meetin�for Plannin�Committee "Joe Town Snow Davs" October 29, 2012 6:15 p.m. 1. Date set: February 16, 2013 2. lohn checked on availability of Kennedy School.Gym renta{-$30 per hour,kitchen rental$30 per hour. Lonnie reminded us that a previous arrangement gave the city free rental.John will check on that. 3. Marguerite spoke to Rachel at Coborns Liquor.They are waiting for a confirmed date.Andrew wondered if we should still contact Cold Spring Brewery. Marguerite will discuss this with Rachel. 4. John suggested we hold "moonlight snow shoeing".The trail could be lit with paper bag luminaries. 5. Possible Locations: Ball Park(for children's events) including sliding, snow sculpture, boot hockey for teenage or older. Lonnie suggested we provide hot dogs and cocoa. Millstream (for adult activities) including Bingo,wine tasting event,snow shoeing,snow softball tournament, bonfire (Terry suggested we use the parking lot for the bonfire and that materials are available) 6. Other Discussion: Medallion Hunt: 1 winner could receive a gift card to a local restaurant-Andrew is going to think of clues. Trophies for children activities Funding: $1435 from Youth Hockey Association, Lions will be contacted by the Mayor for a donation. Chili Feed? Marguerite is going to contact Coborns for chili or supplies for preparing chili(John feels he could actually make the best chili....The Meat Market could be contacted for hot dogs. Advertising:lohn is going to contact Newsleader as a partner to promote the event. It wil be advertised on the local cable channel as well. Times: 2:00-4:00 for children activities 6:00-9:00 for adult activities College Involvement: Bingo for kids? Marguerite will contact St. Bens,St.Johns Portable Potties:Terry will check on cost(probably need 2)for Millstream. In case of no snow-the children activities could be moved to Millstream (we probably won't use Kennedy)
