MEETING DATE: November 7th,2012 AGENDA ITEM: Fire Chief s Report • Class B License Report: Mike Schmotzer sustained an injury while at home and was not able to take his road test in August, he is now scheduled for November 19th. Sha�on Young,who was hired in July of 2011 also needs to get this completed. One of the last three members, Cory Molitor,also needs to get this taken care of. • Turn Out Gear: 7 new sets of gear are in service with 2 on order and 1 pending(Schmotzer) The fire board approved to buy 14 sets back at our February 2012 meeting. We were able to keep it at 10 sets this year but will need to order more in 2013. • Mike Folkerts,Cory Molitor,and Ron Schmidt finished their FF1 and Hazmat class on September 17th,and past the State Certification test. Mike,Cory,Brent Johnson,and Brian Arms also took the FF2 class and are State Certified. The cost of this class was paid for by the state.(FF2 is not a requirement for the SJFD, hawever if the chief feels that the class will fit the member, he has the ability to send them.) • New Pumper was put into service on September 25th 2012. We have had it out for a few minor calls and continue training on it to get afl the members comfortable with it. Elroas picked up the old pumper on October 1st 2012 and paid the difference($58,000.00) • We received a$1,000.00 grant form Midcontinent Communication for the purchase of 30 new"Hands Free"flashlights. The lights are$56.40 each or a total of$1,692.00. The Fire Department agreed to pay the balance,$692.00 from the Relief's fundraising general account and donate them to the St.Joseph Fire Department. The Department also purchased a portable"RAM"deck gun for$2,700.74 from the same account and donated to the St. Joseph Fire Department. • The AFG Grant started awarding the 2012 grants on 9-21-12 and again on 9-28-12. Since than, no awards have been given out due to their end of the fiscal year. The stated that by the middle of October they will start releasing more awards. (We wrote the grant for 16 new SCBA's, 32 Air bottles and 30 new mask,at a cost of$93,880.00.) • Check Out Board: We are working with Avon FD on having the company come in and do a DEMO of their system.
